my long post

There were a lot of things going on with me the past week. I’ve been trying to squeeze my blog on my sked, unfortunately I didn’t have ample time. Anyway, I miss this. I miss writing my thoughts the minute I think about it.

First off, I officially transferred to another room. It sucks. But have to. And I’m missing my privacy. I’m now having difficulties sleeping coz all I hear are loud, grumpy snores coming from the other people in the room. My aunt has arrived from the States last weekend and according to my parents she deserves to have the second “ok space” in our house and that would be my room. Privacy matters to me a lot. I can’t even think how I survived sharing a room with my sister when we were younger. Today, it’s still the same. I’m not sure how I am surviving each day cohabiting with other people in one room. Not because I don’t want the company, its more of I feel most comfortable to do “my routine” without having to consider the presence of someone. On a positive note, the aunt who has just arrived is sooo obsessed with ballroom dancing and for me that’s a good vibe. I see her almost every morning dancing in our sala to the tune of latin songs doing chachacha, tango or anything that she fancies. But the one dance she’s really good at and she enjoys a lot is Argentine Tango. She has been to Argentina just for that. No wonder her body doesn’t speak much of her age. She looks waaay younger than an ordinary 56 year old momma.

I’ve been dealing with tons of things in the office lately. Its funny how sometimes, even if you have no idea about the thing that should be done, you just plunge into doing it because it is JUST needed. Yep that’s the difference between a corporate job and a freelance job. When a person is employed in a company, he has no other option but to cater to the demands of his post and his superior. Unlike when a person is a freelancer, he can just choose the things he will work with and the people he wants to work for at a certain time. Anyhow, at least there’s additional knowledge that comes with the experience even if you’re really not meant to experience it. I recalled some time in college, we were asked to cut out pictures in a magazine and create a title and story out of the pictures that we chose. It just popped on my mind this week. My story was called: “Deal with It”.

Also, part of the blame on why the past days have been packed goes to my officemate who left for Singapore last night. Thanks to her, I feel like I’m about to collapse as early as noon time. It’s a bittersweet goodbye though. I consider her my closest buddy among the group. I’ve never met a person so full of vigor and so efficient. The one memory that I think I will cherish is the compassion she exhibited in everything she did. Not everybody can and wants to do that. I’m definitely gonna miss her but someone’s gotta take her career to greater heights.

And speaking of greater heights, I’m undeniably in a crossroad at this point in time. I am planning to resign soon but I don’t have a contingency plan yet. My aunt and mom suggest that I go back to school and become a cosmetic surgeon (anu daw?!). A few of my friends think that I should be taking masters while I try to find my path. Some believe that the most sensible thing to do is to work abroad. Kaloka. Ang gulo. However, I know for certain that I want to write no matter what happens. This thinking-for-the-future craze is indeed a heavy load on my shoulder and it’s giving me bigger eyebags. Well life is not always a walk in the park. It’s almost always an uphill climb. I think I’m just used to strolling compared to hiking that’s why it’s a struggle for me.

Even so, my week did not end without an episode to perk up my weary body. A present surprised me in the middle of the week. Surprise as in with matching dilating of my eyelids and covering my mouth with one hand sa sobrang pagkasurpise. Someone’s keeping it real for me and I am speechless. I’ve read in a friend’s blog that giving presents such as flowers is so overrated. Well, the happiness that a person feels out of the gift doesn’t even equate to the price tag of that something. Minsan kasi ang hindi nasasabi ng bibig, nasasabi ng actions. It all boils down to the sincerity and intention of the giver. To each his own naman yan eh but I feel that it’s still okay to give those presents. Yeah, the flowers may wither after a few days, but the memory transcends time. One can never know how much joy it can give to a person who never expected to receive such. It’s true that it’s often done for customary purposes, pero sa mga taong hindi madalas magkita, sa mga taong namimiss ang isa’t isa pero busy sila, sa mga taong shy type, sa mga taong nagpaparamdam, malaking tulong ang ganung mga regalo. It may sound materialistic but trust me, sometimes the situation calls for it. It doesn’t need to be grand, doing it in the daily grind of life and in the mundane of things will do all the works. In my case, that was what happened.

Ang ending ng week na toh is kind of disappointing. Sometimes may mga bagay na planado na but still falters. Anyway, I just hate the thought that you can’t be mad coz you perfectly understand the situation and because naintindihan mo alam mo kung anu ang ipaprioritize.

It feels great to able to write all these. Its giving me a new stance for the week ahead. At least the bottled thoughts and emotions are out. Til next time.

ako greet sayo

Contrary to what most people know, Kiong Hee Huat Chai literally doesn't mean Happy New Year. The line actually says "Congratulations and be prosperous."

Chinese New Year always falls on a different date because it does not follow the Gregorian Calendar, rather it heeds the Lunar Calendar which adopts the phases of the moon.

Old stories tell that there is a mountain beast who attacks a Chinese village every New Year's Eve. Unluckily for the beast though,it is afraid of the color red and also to extreme noise.

Tikoy, aside from being popular for bringing wealth, it also represents togetherness, closeness and being one.

OK enough of the trivia. Greeting everybody a Happy Chinese New Year! Paint your town red and ignite firecrackers to scare the Nian!!!

time-check

Time check. It's 11:50 pm.

Munching an apple.. Enshrouded by heaps of pillows.. typing.

I can't sleep or should I say I was stirred by the "ousting of JDV" rumpus. JDV is upset because he is being ousted as the Speaker of the House of Congress. And as such, the ally now becomes an adversary and all the dark secrets of the president carefully kept in the past are now slowly disclosed to the public. Not that the public never really knew about it, but there's one soul right now ready to wage battle and confirm that there is truth to the dayaan sa election, kurakot sa kontrata, tangka ng pagpapapatay at kung ano pa yong mga naiisip ng utak mo. Goodluck kay JDV. In return, other members of the congress are rallying their opinions to protect the interest of their parties.

Mudsling is currently a hip. Everybody's saying their piece hoping to persuade people to vote their side without really realizing that the more they do this, the more they appear to be patronizing themselves instead of solving the main problem.

Watching news like this makes me feel awful. I feel that these people are so selfish. Generally, politicians are known to be selfish anyway, but I feel that they are too occupied with themselves that instead of drafting laws for our nation, they choose to spend their time delivering their never ending litanies.

I say grow-up all you leaders. Kaloka naman kayo. Sisipag niyo magaway. Baka gusto niyong kalimutan muna ang pamomolitika para maiba naman. Instead of wasting your voice giving out unnecessary speeches, why not make good use of your brains and hearts and put the mass as your first priority? Di niyo ba kaya yon?

Its just disturbing that politicians dwell so much on those things and yet there are tons of horrendous issues out there waiting for their acknowledgement. Para bang nasasayang na lang ang oras. Panu na lang yong namumulot ng basura para meron makain, paano na lang yong estudyante na hindi makapasok sa skwela, panu na lang yong mga biktima ng karahasan. I don't mean to sound all-knowing and goody-goody but minsan na lang ako manood ng tv abay yon pa ang bumulaga sakin.

Politics is such a dirty avenue. Even if a person chooses to bear a halo, situations will force him to grow a devil's horn. That's the sad part. And what's even sadder is that the majority is at stake because of the poison enveloped to that leader.

Sayang naman ang Pinas. I totally believe even way way back that the Filipinos are the "pambato" ng Pilipinas. Hindi ang dried manggoes, casoy, native bags or suman. Kundi mga Pinoys. Panu na ngayon eh mismong mga leader ng mga taong "pambato" sana eh siya pang nangunguna sa pgpapalubog ng madlang Pinoy.

Adios. Im sleepy.

Viva Pit Senyor

What: Sto. Nino Festival
When: January 27, 2008
Where: Roxas Boulevard

When I was at this event last Sunday, it struck me that for almost sixteen years I was not able to go to Cebu every January to celebrate the Sinulog Festival. I am grateful someone has informed me that there is this kind of happening in the metro (kahit dinaanan lang ang beauty ko). Feels like home is a bit closer now and the things that I miss about my province are springing back. The vibrant ati-atihan costumes, the beat of the drums that makes you wanna wiggle and stomp your feet, the awwws and the aaaahhhs of people amazed by the plethora of Sto. Ninos dressed in various roles and adorned with charming flowers --- everything was explicitly entertaining! Even the weather cooperated, it was such a warm cloudy day and although there were times that the scourge of heat got in the way, we must have enjoyed the parade very much to not grumble about it.

I say Viva Pit Senyor! May we be just like you. Simple, sincere and full of hope.
