sinudlan

All I was hoping for lunch today was anything heavy (since I haven't had breakfast). As I was about to raid the kitchen for food, I smelled something very very appetizing. I saw my lola doing the works for her famous "Sinudlan". I'm not sure how to translate the dish's name in English. It may sound out-of-this-world, but the taste truly compensates the eccentricity of its name. My lola generally cooks the dish whenever there are occasions such as fiestas in our province. It's one of my lola's specialties that people can''t refrain from coming back for more.

Sinudlan is made from minced meat medley (giniling). It is then plopped inside pork intestines (chitterlings). I know it sounds gross but yeah, it's really put inside chitterlings, but of course those intestines are already tidied up and are spotless. Once the chitterlings are pack
ed, the openings are tied and then it is seared into a pan full of cooking oil that's already heated at high temperature. Although it may take 1 to 2 hours before it turns brown and ready for eating, the wait surely is worth it.

Below are some pictures that I've taken while lola was making the yummy Sinudlan. Just a warning though, the appearance of the dish may look not so appealing. However this I tell you, there's more than meets the eye. =)

pretty sweeet

I was about to shut down my laptop but I could not resist my drive to post this one. Read it from someonelse' blog.

The Invitation

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it's not pretty, every day,and if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back. It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.

I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

weeeeeeee

My partner and I won! Weeeeeeeeee! Simply exhilarating! I'm still in awe. That was our first time. And I thought we would go home empty handed again today. But we defeated the other team during the second match!

Last week's opening was a good exposure. I was able to experience what it is like in a real game. Although I was absolutely in high spirits, we were beaten. Today, we played two matches. The first match got me disappointed. I knew we could have done better, we were just pressured by the audience. There were a lot of fans who cheered the other team and it was such a distraction while playing. I guess, coming from a newbie like me, that was one factor that could help make or break my game. I felt terrible after losing. I wanted to talk to my partner and tell him: "hey kuya I'm not gonna allow this tournament to end without us winning even one match, so please galingan na natin." I was bugged by the fact that, most of the "service" from our opponents were bad and they weren't also supportive of each other... still they won with just two points higher.

By the end of the first match, I lazily sat down at the bench and hoped that, that was our only game today. I heard someone asked our challenger if they won and who they defeated. When one of the players answered that it was our team whom they trounced, the person said: "aww kaya pala, sila Dac lang naman eh." I really felt bad. I thought, my partner and I were sure-fire clear as crystal losers in the eyes of the other players. I felt that all this time they were belittling our capacity. I couldn't quite disagree with them on a certain level since this is the first Badminton Tournament that my partner and I joined. However I don't want to be thought of that way. I guess nobody wants to. So just imagine after losing the first match, and hearing those comments, my self-esteem was crushed and I was on the verge of going home. I didn't want another round.

But there were two games that we needed to play today or else my partner and I were already behind the schedule. We were left with no option but to play. Before the second match started I said to myself: "dac just play nalang, wag ka na magisip ng kung anu-ano pa while playing basta return the shuttleock before it touches the ground yon na yon kasi nothing to lose na naman eh." Surprisingly, right from the first service until the end of the game, my partner and I performed pretty well. I didn't think of any tactics, I tried not to be conscious of the other people present, I focused my mind on the ball, I cooperated with my partner and I just enjoyed the game. And so we won by 8 points! Woooohhoooo!

It felt nice to win. The feeling is indescribable. I know there are still a lot of matches that my partner and I need to conquer. That second game a while ago surely is a confidence booster and I'm hopeful for another victory next Saturday. I just realized that sometimes it doesn't hurt to hear harsh words because it brings out the fighter side in you (hihi). It posts as a challenge to your capacity and a gateway to exceed your limit. Once defeated, just try to play again and play with all your heart and mind.

BaDmInToN tRiViA for Badminton junkies out there:

  • Badminton started in India and its original name is Poona.
  • Generally accepted that the best feather birdies are made from the left wing of a goose. Shuttlecocks made from the left wing are usually more stable in flight ! (http://www.badzone.co.uk/shuttle.html)
  • A badminton 'birdie' can travel at speeds of up to 200 MPH.
  • Badminton was admitted as a full medal sport at the games of the XXVth Olympiad in Barcelona 1992.
  • Olympic badminton rules say that the bird has to have exactly fourteen feathers

Magic talaga......pati score!

I was invited by my officemates to join them for a videoke session and sing our hearts out. Simply put, Pinoys love to sing. Aside from the merriment it brings, it's one way of freeing locked-up emotions. I was sooooo excited since I'm a videoke aficionado myself. We decided not to raid karaoke bars. This time around we put ourselves at ease in the comfort of the home of one of my officemates and just used a magic sing for singing. Magic Sing is waaaay too much a blessing for people who loves to belt. True to its tagline which says: "Videoke Karaoke Microphone In Your Hand" - it's practical. It is even flexible as it can be loaded with chips containing songs released from the good old days up to hits recently launched.

I like the idea of the person who invented the Magic Sing. Whoever he is, he made sure the user would have the pleasure of using it anywhere he likes. The owner can plug it on virtually any
place as long as there is television. A simple input of the song number and the tune of the chosen song immediately starts. Users can select songs through the song book or from the television screen using the built-in menu of the Magic Sing.

The only drawback would have to be the scoring system. I guess that feature needs improvement. I can't possibly understand why a person who sang only half of a song gets a score of 80. How the hell did that happen? Plus if the singer sings louder than the usual, there is always a possibility that he will get a score which is not less than 90% (as much as I would want to keep this for myself, I think many already discovered it). Personally I don't think singing should be judged base on the volume of a person's voice. That's too shallow.

So to the makers of Magic Sing, try to device another way for your scoring system. I don't know how you will do that. I'll leave it to you since you are the experts. Maybe try basing scores from the voice's timbre or vibration or huskiness or hoarseness - I'm not sure. Just try another method. I don't wanna continue getting a score of one hundred, if the judging factor is just mediocre =P

una

I am not fond of blogging but there is a need and I must fill it. My previous officemate said this should serve as my therapy. My reaction was like: wait a minute, do I really need one? I tried blogging before but I stopped. I just posted whenever I felt terrible on a certain day. It was my outlet... an outlet for my loneliness, heartaches and insecurities. Looking back, I think there were only two to three posts which sounded positive. The rest... got me either teary eyed or crabbed.

So now, I wanted my blog to cater to all my emotions. This is one step I'm taking in order to make peace with myself and with the life I'm living.

Welcome... welcome.... everyone!!!
